2 very well-equipped holiday cottages in a beautifully restored 16th century Breton farmhouse complex in a courtyard setting with lovely gardens including a large Heated Swimming Pool and children’s play areas and barn. Our gites have been tastefully renovated to a high standard -offering all the charm of bygone days, with all the comforts of modern-day living. It’s another world just waiting to be explored - a very rural location but just a 15 minute walk to a town with everything you need, and a 10 minute drive from the wonderful Lac de Guerledan with its large sandy beaches and a range of water sports on offer. Evening meals, packed lunches and even baby sitting are offered making this an ideal location for a relaxing family holiday which Mum can enjoy too! There's so much to see and do - it's impossible to list everything! But to give you a flavour we're just a short walk from an ancient forest and Les Landes de Liscuis (a moorland area) ideal for walking and discovering the flora and fauna that have existed here for centuries. Nearby is L'Abbaye de Bon Repos which was originally built in 1184 and has been successively ruined and rebuilt over the centuries. Its superb setting next to the River Blavet and the Nantes-Brest Canal is well worth a visit: there are weirs, salmon stairs, a former water mill, a mediaeval stone bridge over the river, a restaurant and a very interesting fossil/jewelley/objets d'art shop. Opposite there is a creperie/bar where you can sit and drink watching the world go by. On Sunday mornings from Easter to October there is an interesting local market where traders sell organic produce and crafts - it’s not just for tourists and is also popular with locals in Brittany. The abbey is now being restored and to raise funds for this a grand ‘Son et Lumiere’ is presented around the second weekend in August when around 400 local people, horses, dogs, etc, enact the history of the abbey and the area. It is a fantastic event starting around 10.30pm and ending around 12.30am with a firework display. Having seen a number of such ‘grande spectacles’ including beside the Pyramids in Egypt we can honestly say this one in Brittany is the best! If you like to fish then you can fish for pike, zander, carp and trout in Lac de Guerledan and with the purchase of a cheap 10 day permit you can also fish in many local rivers, and keep what you catch, including salmon. A carp night fishing tour is a regular event and open fishing competitions take place throughout the season. Or if horse riding is your thing, then there are a number of ‘poney clubs’ in the area where you can hire a hack by the hour, around 15 euros, or for the day at about 75 euros, or you could have lessons and learn to ride. There is a horse museum in Corlay, Brittany which also has a ruined castle surrounded by water. Bulat-Pestivien hosts an annual 3 day horse fair in September for which people come from miles around; and the Hippodrome at Petit Paris holds race meets throughout the year. For golf enthusiasts, there are a number of golf courses in Brittany and these tend to be closer to the coasts but well within comfortable driving distances of 30 - 60 minutes or so. If you just fancy trying your hand at golf but don’t have, or don’t want to bring your golf clubs, then we have a couple of basic sets available to borrow! But if it’s just for fun then you can play mini-golf in Gouarec or crazy golf in Mur de Bretagne - both quite challenging for the beginner! For those who enjoy history and sightseeing, there are a number of churches particularly with parish closes, castles, etc, within easy reach for you to explore in Brittany. Pontivy was the seat of the Dukes of Rohan and their castle still stands and is worth visiting. It has a moat which has never had water in it! The town of Pontivy has a mediaeval centre, a traditional main street of individual shops and also the ‘new town’ of Napoleonville which was laid out according to his instructions and was intended to become the capital of Brittany.
Good restaurants and lively markets abound, whilst the many local fetes, pardons and fest noz extend a warm welcome to visitors, and provide the opportunity to experience local culture, music, costumes, traditions, regional specialities and cuisine. Whether you are seeking to escape the stresses of modern-day living, enjoying a relaxing family break, or looking for a base from which to explore the many and varied delights this area has to offer, you will find all this and more at Les Hirondelles. We are situated in the heart of Brittany in the historic hamlet of Rosquelfen very close to the wonderful lLac de Guerledan and easy driving distance from the beautiful Pink Granite coast to the north and the Gulf of Morbihan to the south.
Our gites are very well equipped with all mod cons but also have lots of character! Our large heated swimming pool is thoughtfully situated to be easily accessible but it is fenced and gated for your children's safety. Our gites offer a peaceful and private setting in a rural area of Brittany ideal for both exploring and relaxing. It is an ideal family holiday location as it is just a 15 minute walk from a small bustling town called Gouarec, about 10 minutes drive from Lac de Guerledan, 35 minutes from the north Brittany coast at St Brieuc and an hour or so from the south Brittany coast.
There are 2 gites both newly decorated and furnished: Les Rossignols Gite which sleeps 5 and Les Chouettes Gite which sleeps 8, plus a baby in either gite. Within our grounds there are various outdoor and indoor games, such as swings, boule, croquet, paddling pool, etc. There is also a small barn for 'al fresco' style dining in the cool of the evening which is equipped with a barbecue and table and chairs. What could be better than relaxing with a glass of wine on the terrace, after a days’ activity, whilst keeping a watchful eye on the children playing in the fully enclosed and attractively planted garden. For those with a little more energy, why not enjoy a game of boules or perhaps a swim? Or for those not feeling quite so energetic, why not simply soak up the sun on the large sun-bathing patio which surrounds our superb 34 ft x 15 ft (securely enclosed) heated swimming pool – a great favourite with young and old alike.

This cottage sleeps 5 plus a baby. The ground floor is a spacious open plan area with a wood burning stove set into a huge original granite fireplace, 2 comfortable sofas, English satellite TV with video and DVD players, radio/music centre, dining table and chairs, and well equipped and fitted kitchen area with cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine.
There is a wide selection of English books, videos and board games to suit all ages. The rear glass door leads out to the private fenced rear garden and patio area with table, chairs, sunshade, barbecue and outdoor games, from where there is a locked gate which opens to the heated swimming pool and terrace to which you will be given a key.

Going back inside the cottage, pine stairs lead to the first floor:

Bedroom 1 with king size bed, Bedroom 2 with 1 single bed and 1 set of full size bunk beds, and the family Shower Room. The cottage is fully equipped to a high standard for 5+ people with cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils, duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels.

Les Chouettes is an early 16th century stone cottage in typically Breton style and it sleeps 8. The ground floor is a spacious open plan area with lots of exposed beams and a wood burning stove set into a huge original granite fireplace, a very large comfortable sofa, English satellite TV withvideo and DVD players, radio/music centre, dining table and chairs, and well equipped and fitted kitchen area with cooker, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer and washing machine. There is a wide selection of English books, videos and board games to suit all ages. There is a private fenced garden and patio area with table, chairs, sunshade, barbecue and outdoor games with access to a locked gate which opens to the heated swimming pool and terrace to which you will be given a key.

Bedroom 1 with a king size bed and en-suite shower room, Bedroom 2 with a double bed, Bedroom 3 with 2 sets of sturdy pine bunk beds, and a second shower room.
