Coat Amour is a delightful XVIII
century manor house built in the style of the Malouin manors and set in 12
acres of Parkland on the edge of the charming medieval town of Morlaix in
Brittany. The word Coat means ‘wood’ in Breton, so our manor is called
Wood of Love! We offer you Chambres d’Hôtes in the Manor House or Self
Catering in one of our Brittany Gites.

Library in our Brittany Manor House
Within a short walk of the town of Morlaix, with its’ port, restaurants
and shops and only kilometres from the coast, staying at Coat Amour Manor
Gites and Chambres d’Hôtes offers various opportunities for the holiday
maker. The grounds of the Manoir are impressive; they were planted
extensively a century ago with oaks, limes, planes, tulip trees, copper
beeches, chestnuts, sequoias and Japanese Maples. In the spring the
magnolias and rhododendrons are a delight and the garden is blessed in the
summer months by its delightful hydrangeas. We are proud of our vegetable
garden, rose beds and orchard. Here is the opportunity to take a quiet
evening walk or to enjoy the shade provided by our lovely old trees to
read or paint. At our Brittany Gites and Chambres d’Hôtes we have a
swimming pool (summer only) which provides a chance for the active holiday
maker to cool off from the heat of the sun. Pool side recliners are
provided for sunbathing.
You may enjoy a gentle game of croquet on the lawn.
We have a beautifully decorated chapel ideal for quiet reflection and it
may be possible to arrange a service. Stay in one of the Manor’s generous
bedrooms with ensuite facilities, or chose our secluded Gite, L’Ecurie
(Stable Cottage) for up to 7 people, where you can be assured of privacy
and tranquillity. Morlaix is situated where two river valley’s of the
Jarlot and Queffleuth meet and flow into the Morlaix estuary. The town is
traversed by a unique two storey viaduct built in 1864, which carries the
railway. Morlaix was a Roman base, although not much appears to have been
built here until AD1000. The town was attacked on numerous occasions not
least by the English. 10 km north of Morlaix stands an important
megalithic site with tumulus and dolmen. The town is a few minutes drive
from some lovely sandy beaches and, being less than half an hour from the
ferry port of Roscoff, a night spent at Coat Amour can provide a useful
resting place before or after your ferry crossing. The harbour, with its’
lock, provides a safe and relaxing retreat for yachtsmen and their craft,
a place to change crews or simply relax after an exhausting crossing and
it makes an interesting place to take an evening stroll.
